About Me.
A born and bred Pittsburgher, Nicholas DeLuca is a current senior at Penn State University studying Broadcast Journalism with minors in Digital Media Trends and Analytics and Music Performance.

Nicholas has received consistent praise and accolades for his multi-disciplinary approach to his undergraduate tenure. That is, balancing his time allotted for expanding his media and professional background while continuing to make music with numerous ensembles within the School of Music. He has been able to build upon his skills as a journalist and a musician through professional experiences, organizations he has been a member of, projects he has crafted and compositions he has performed.

In his media portfolio, Nicholas has had his content broadcasted and published on Penn State Network News, The Borgen Project and BORGEN Magazine. It was here where his research-based content, with a primary focus on global health, was exposed to a worldwide audience. Nicholas has served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in the Bellisario College of Communications, where he mentored students in Communications 403: Law of Mass Communications under the guidance of Cynthia Simmons, J.D. Nicholas is also a member of faculty for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference, which is comprised of high-achieving high school students with demonstrated desires to pursue the journalism and media industries professionally. His students have gone on to become involved in their school's media production scene, and some have been admitted to prestigious journalism and media programs at universities in the United States and beyond. Nicholas applies this practical philosophy while in the field: you are not the story; the story is the story.

In his musical background, Nicholas has earned spots in numerous elite and highly selective ensembles at Penn State and beyond and has had the honor of studying with and performing under batons of highly respected and accomplished artists and educators. His trumpet studies are under the instruction of Amy Gilreath and Dillon Parker, and previously of Langston Fitzgerald and Richard Daller. He has performed with the Penn State Marching Blue Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Trumpet Studio and, in April 2023, garnered Undergraduate Jury Recognition award for his performance of Movement I of Joseph Haydn's Trumpet Concerto. Venues performed in include Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh and the Rose Bowl Parade in California. Batons performed under include those of Peter Boonshaft, Tonya Mitchell-Spradlin, Andrew Yozviak, Brian Worsdale, Gregory Drane and Christopher Cicconi.

In his free time, Nicholas enjoys playing his trumpet, traveling, distance walking, mental health advocacy, spending time with his friends and family, and rooting for all Pittsburgh and Penn State sports teams.
